Teach young people the skills of conflict resolution - give young people the skills to deal with conflict at home, in school and with friends.
Conflicts can be handled in 4 basic ways: aggression, withdrawal, mediation and negotiation.
Negotiation, which respects both parties' needs, and views the conflict s a shared problem, is generally the most helpful way of resolving conflict.
This programme offers a series of structures experiences which aim to prepare students to deal with conflicts in positive ways. It helps them to understand why conflict occurs, how they can be escalated or diffused and
teaches successful ways of handling them.

Strategy 1 - encourages students to reflect on their experience of conflict and share thoughts and feelings on a variety of conflict issues.
Strategies 2-3 - conflict in the world at international, local and personal levels are explored.
Strategies 4-6 - Students examine how people normally respond to conflicts, identify behaviours which escalate or defuse conflicts, and decide on the most successful way of resolving conflicts.
Strategies 7-8 - Skills of negotiation are taught and practised
Strategies 9-10 - young people decide on ways of reducing existing conflict in their lives and look at practical ways of preventing conflicts
Strategy 11 - Students assess their conflict management skills, establish behaviour goals.
Strategy 12 - Programme concludes with an evaluation
